WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today praised
the
> passage by unanimous consent of his bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S. law
to
> allow veterans and servicemen not in uniform to salute the flag.
> Current law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and
> servicemen not in uniform should place their hand over their heart
> without clarifying whether they can or should salute the flag.
>
>
> "The salute is a form of honor and respect, representing pride in
one's
> military service," Senator Inhofe said. "Veterans and service members
> continue representing the military services even when not in uniform.
> Unfortunately, current U.S. law leaves confusion as to whether
veterans
> and service members out of uniform can or should salute the flag. My
> legislation will clarify this regulation, allowing veterans and
> servicemen alike to salute the flag, whether they are in uniform or
not.
> I look forward to seeing those who have served saluting proudly at
> baseball games, parades, and formal events. I believe this is an
> appropriate way to honor and recognize the 25 million veterans in the
> United States who have served in the military and remain as role
models
> to others citizens. Those who are currently serving or have served in
> the military have earned this right, and their recognition will be an
> inspiration to others."
>
> This Bill was passed July 25, 2007.

It has been a week now since our camping trip and I just wanted
everyone to know what a wonderful time that was had by all. The
mountains were beautiful the lake devine and the fun and friendship
beyond belief. It was so great to see everyone again and especially
renewing old friendships. I feel so at peace after each of our reunions,
I know there can never be any closer bond than with those of us who were
there on 15 May 1975. Thanks to all who made this happen and especially
Tina who seems to have tireless energy regardless of the task. And to
all Koh Tang Vets out there, you have got to make every effort to make
the next reunion and I promise you that if you make one, it won't be
your last.

Hi, my name is Susan Evans and I am the sister of PFC Danny G.
Marshall. I would like to thank all of you that have gone to his web
page and signed his guest book.We tried to make his web page about him
and what went on that day. We want it to be a place all of you can go to
and tell your story and Maybe find the truth and the missing pieces of
the puzzle. I have read so many thing that were not true at all or half
truths that we thought there should be one place you guys could tell
what really happened to you in your own words. I especially want to
thank Jeff Kern, and John Parks because of all the contributions they
have made to the site. The flag and the story Jeff told are invaluable
to me. I am still trying to find out who the other 2 guys are in the pic
of Danny leaning on the rock!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it is still hard for
most of you to talk about and I respect that. It is sometimes hard for
me to hear but in the end I know I can deal with the truth and all the
lies can never be dealt with. When you are ready and want to talk to
someone I am more than willing to listen. I pray WE can find the truth
eventually. None of you are responsable for what happened over there
although I'm sure many of you think you are. You were KIDS, taking
orders and you did what you had to. Don't carry guilt over it, Danny
wouldn't want that!!! Lets find the ones really responsable and together
we can do that !!!!!!!!! Well thank you all for listening and again
thanks for making his web site what it is. Remember it is for you guys
too. There will be NO buracratic B.S. on his site. Thank you so much all
of you!!!!!!! I know you did what you could!!!!!!!!
Thanks for listening,
Susan

It is my wish that you share this message with the other members of the
Koh Tang Beach Club. On this bitter sweet day, 32 years after. I wish to
extrend to you all, my condolences and admiration for what you all went
through on this date 32 years ago. You all are not forgotten. I thank
each and everyone of you personally for your sacrifices then and now. It
is something that I, like so many others before us, you relive on a

I am on a mission to have Allen E. Bailey (PFC) G-2/9 West Beach
(Knife 21) be awarded the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds sustained
while on Koh Tang in 1975. At this point I am very close to proving,
without a doubt this happened, however the Purple Heart review person is
requesting additional eye witness letters.
Allen was assigned to the eight-man patrol lead by 2nd Lieutenant James
McDaniel with the mission to link-up with Colonel Austin’s group.
During that link-up Allen was struck over nine times (scars documented
on medical report) from shrapnel by exploding grenades. He was awarded
the Navy Achievement Citation with Value for this, but did not receive
his Purple Heart.
During the evacuation off Koh Tang (Jolly 44 to US Holt), Allen was then
pierced through the left leg by an enormous thorn (scars documented on
medical report). As described in one witness letter “The incident was
singular in that there was no other occurrence at all like it, and it
was the subject of much humor and discussion among personnel of our
battalion.” He further stated Allen “was recommended for an award
for personal bravery, and also for the Purple Heart for wounds less
severe than those sustained from the thorn”.
My goal is to have Allen be honored with his long overdue military merit
of the Purple Heart during the Koh Tang Beach Club 2nd Reunion Banquet
in Fort Walton Beach, FL on May 1, 2008.
Any Marine remembering Allen and his injuries, please contact us as soon
as possible.
Thank you and God Bless,

Whew man. I was Real short Camp Lejeune and I get this letter from
another corpsman I knew. He tells me about getting fucked up Tang
Island. Took me awhile to find out what this was, and what happened. I
expected to be attached grunts Okinawa, my turn! As they used to say.
This buddy of mine, good corpsman, lousy sailor. Heard he got shot dead
lower east side, Manhatten. His girl back then told me. Shit it made me
feel bad. Once, HM3 LaPierre, Semper Fi my old buddies.

Just checking in
Still working on my site and trying to meet as many 2/9ers from the
Mayaguez Incident as possiable.
I know its hard to remember and I don't mean that in a forgetfull way. I
wake up angry a lot but never, thank god have had to go thru the scope
of this tragedy. If remembering hurts, don't talk about it but drop me
an e-mail. But If you have something you want on the site send it. I
don't care if its an e-mail telling me to _ _ _ _ off.

Yesterday I found this site and a flood of emotions came over me.
For all these years I kept these emotions in. When I saw the pictures
and read the guest book many things I put away in May of 1975 came back.
Some things I forgot, some I never knew, and some things I chose to
forget. I was 17 years old then serving as a plane captain for VA-94
aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. Although I did not hit the beach I remember
the brave Marines on our ship that did. I remember being on the flight
deck and actually putting my finger in the holes on those Jolly Greens
left by enemy fire. I remember carrying some of those brave Marines from
the helo... some to see another day and some not. Back then I didn't
really know what it was all about and didn't realize the impact of the
operation. It really came to me when I thought of my own son returning
from Iraq recently. He came home. I thought about those soldiers I
carried and for the first time saw them as a son, a brother, a husband.
I found this site and it helped me put it all together. Thank you |

My name is John Parks I was in country 68/69 and flew in the CH53A
helos.
While in the VA in American Lakes WA. I joined the group just cause. And
I was asked if I would put up a rememberance page for Daniel Benedett.
After startiing this I don't see how I can just stop with one.
I need all the help and contacts I can find. I was looking in all the
wrong places until I found your site. Are there any pictures, letters,

To Greg Wilson - on his commentary on events as Nail 69...
Because of poor communications, the U-2 out of U-Tapao served as a
communications link to the 6908 ESS (located in USSAG) and, with
runners, to Blue Chip (also in USSAG). I recall one of the 'reports'
stating: Nail-69 states 'they ought to sink that (explitive deleted)
island. I do recall that Blue Chip heeded your request - with the Daisy
Cutter...
Your commentary provides a lot of light on what we could only hear from
afar... Thanks! |

TOO: KOH TANG OFFICERS, HAS ANY ONE TRY TO UPGRADE NAVY UNIT
CITATION TO A PRESIDENATL UNIT CITATION FOR THE MARINES THAT FOUGHT ON
KOH TANG INLAND, I THINK THAT THE LETTER FROM PRESIDENT FORD AND GENERAL
GRAY LETTER WRITTEN AT THIS YEAR RE-UNION WOULD SUPPORT IT, AND US
MARINES WHO FOUGHT THERE KNOW WE DESIRE IT. HERE IS A COPY OF THE
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE
Navy Presidential Unit Citation
The Navy Presidential Unit Citation was established by Executive Order
9050 signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 6, 1942, and
promulgated by Navy Department General Order Number 187 of February 3,
1943.
Effective Dates
The Navy Presidential Unit Citation has been in effect since October 16,
1941.
Criteria
The Navy Presidential Unit Citation is awarded in the name of the
President to units of the Armed Forces of the United States and
cobelligerent nations for extraordinary heroism in action against an
armed enemy. The unit must have accomplished its mission under such
extremely difficult and hazardous conditions to set it apart from and
above other units participating in the same campaign. The degree of
heroism required is the same as that which would be required for award
of a Navy Cross to an individual.

Hello to all my brothers. I was with E-2/9, on Koh Tang. I so wanted
to attend the reunion due to finances and work.I could not. My thoughts
are with every one of all of you that participated in that operation
including myself. I recieved an E-mail from Gail Rogers a couple of
weeks ago, and I then phoned him the next day. He was very close to my
position on the East beach, the more we talked the more we remembered
each other, and the events of that day. If or when ever there is another
chance to return to KOH TANG for a fact finder trip to answer more
unanswered questions, I would like to participate in it. Thank You Gale
Rogers,SSGT. HALE and others that went back there! GOD BLESS YOU1 Since
it is MEMORIAL DAY week end I would like to remember,All that have made
the ultimate sacrifice on MAY 15TH 75, PAST,PRESENT, of all branches of
our armed forces! LET US NOT FORGET!! SEMPER-FI MAY GOD BLESS L/CPL JEFF
